Springer Homers Twice in 11-7 Win Over Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - UConn baseball's George Springer homered twice in the Huskies' 11-7 win over Boston College on Monday afternoon in Chestnut Hill, Mass. at Shea Field.
Springer homered in both the fourth and ninth innings as UConn (38-10) scored at least one run in the first four innings of today's ballgame. The sophomore now has 15 home runs this season and 31 in his two-year career. He also currently has a team-high tally of 64 runs scored. With the loss, Boston College drops to 27-23 on the year.
Pierre LePage led things off in today's contest as he connected on the first pitch of the ballgame and sent it over the left field wall for his second career home run to give UConn an early 1-0 lead.
The Huskies took a 2-1 advantage after two innings, before UConn tallied two runs in the third and six in the fourth. Back-to-back singles in the third inning by John Andreoli and LePage put two more runs on the board for the Huskies as they took a 4-1 advantage. The Huskies added six more runs on six hits in the fourth, including a lead off home run by George Springer. The blast was Springer's 14th of the year.
Mike Nemeth followed the Springer homer with a single up the middle before Mike Olt tripled into left center to score Nemeth from first. Olt then scored as Kevin Vance singled into center field. LePage added two more RBI in the frame on his 16th double of the season.
Boston College put another run on the board in the bottom of the inning then tallied two in the sixth to cut UConn's lead to six at 10-4. The Eagles' starter, Taylor Lasko (2-1) threw three innings, allowing nine hits, six earned runs and two walks, while hitting two batters. Gordon Hunter threw 0.1 for the Eagles and allowed four hits and four runs against six batters faced.
Bob Van Woert (5-1) earned the win for the Huskies as he threw six innings, allowing nine hits and four runs scored. He gave up a two-run home run over the left field wall to Mike Sudol before coming out of the game.
Freshman Dan Feehan took the hill for the Huskies in the seventh as he allowed three hits in two innings of work, including a solo homer to Mickey Wiswall. Wiswall picked up his second homer of the game in the bottom of the ninth as he hit a solo shot to right field off UConn's Kevin Vance.
Despite the Eagles scoring a run in the final four innings, Vance closed out the game with two strikeouts and pop out to second to secure the 11-7 non-conference victory.
LePage finished the afternoon 3-for-6 with four RBI, while Springer went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Doug Elliot went 5-for-6 for the Huskies with two runs.
UConn will take on Manhattan College on Tuesday afternoon at J.O. Christian Field. This is an added game to the 2010 schedule and will begin at 3:30 p.m.
