Volleyball Falls To New Hampshire, 3-2

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut volleyball team wasn't able to hold on to a two-set lead, falling to New Hampshire, 3-2 this evening in Gampel Pavilion. The Huskies are now 2-9 on the season, while the Wildcats improve to 5-9.
Set scores were 19-25, 23-25, 29-27, 26-24, 15-13.
The Huskies got off to a strong start, holding the lead throughout set one including a three-point rally to end the match. Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) had a pair of kills along with one from Morgan Freeman (Virginia Beach, Va.) to give UConn the 25-19 first set victory.
Despite holding the lead for just seven points during set two, UConn was able to pull out a 25-23 victory to go up two sets to zero over the Wildcats. Allison Nickel (Pittsford, N.Y.), Julia Hamer (Burlington, Ont.) and Freeman each posted kills that led to a UConn lead, including Hamer's third kill of the night on the last play of the set giving the Huskies the 2-0 advantage.
UConn and UNH battled back and forth throughout the final three sets, with the Wildcats posting three straight set wins to come from behind and take the match.
Three Huskies posted double digit kills on the night, Rebecca Murray (Carmel, Ind.) and Freeman each recorded 13 while Quayle tallied 11. Freeman's 13 kills was a career-high while Quayle notched a season-high with her 11 kills against UNH.
Angela Roidt (McFarland, Wis.) recorded 48 assists during the match, while Kelsey Maving (Tonawanda, N.Y.) led the Huskies with 24 digs, which was just shy of a season-high.
Freeman led UConn in blocks with one block solo and three block assists, with Roidt, Nickel, Quayle and Jordan Kirk (Plano, Texas) also posting blocks on the night.
The Huskies return to action when they open BIG EAST play on Sunday (September 26), hosting Villanova at 2:00 p.m. in Gampel Pavilion.
