Ellington, Conn. - Senior Jeb Buchanan stands in a tie for fifth place overall to help the University of Connecticut golf team to third place after two rounds Monday of the Connecticut Cup at Ellington Ridge Country Club.
Sacred Heart holds the team lead through two rounds, leading Rhode Island by four shots and UConn by 11 strokes. Houston Baptist and Iona College round out the top five teams.
Wally Gonzalez of the University of Hartford leads in the individual standings at five under, holding a two shot advantage over Branden Chikorka of URI and three shot edge over Josh Salah and Joseph Serrantino of Sacred Heart. Buchanan and Jeffrey Merrell of Houston Baptist stand at one-under, four shots back.
Junior Brian Hughes is the only other Husky in the top 20, standing at three-over and is tied for 12th place.
The tournament concludes with 18 holes Tuesday beginning at 8:30 a.m.
