STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men's hockey team fell at No. 13 Merrimack, 5-0, in non-conference action on Saturday night. The loss dropped the Huskies to 2-2-0, while the Warriors moved their record to 4-0-0.

UConn and Merrimack played a tightly contested first period, with MC holding a 9-8 advantage in shots. Senior Elliott Sheen lit the lamp with 1:04 remaining to break a scoreless tie and give the Warriors a 1-0 lead heading into intermission.

Less than three minutes into the second, senior Jeff Velleca posted a power play goal to lift the Merrimack lead to 2-0.

At the 4:41 mark of the third period, senior Karl Stollery added to the Warrior lead, off an assist from Sheen, for his second goal of the season. Senior Ryan Flanigan and sophomore Brendan Ellis each tallied a power play score in the final minutes of the stanza to bring the game to its 5-0 final.

Junior goaltender Garrett Bartus (St. Charles, Ill.) made 27 saves for the Huskies, while his counterpart sophomore Sam Marotta provided 25 stops. For the game, Merrimack outshot UConn 32-25.

The Huskies return home for their home and Hockey East opener at 7:05 pm on Thursday October 27 when they take on Holy Cross at the Freitas Ice Forum.
