Women's Tennis Concludes Fall Season at Regionals

STORRS, Conn. - The women's tennis program concluded the fall season with the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships hosted by Yale University with finals concluding on Tuesday. Alexa Gregory, Jennifer Learmonth, Maxene Weinberg and Marie Gargiulo all competed for Connecticut.
In the main singles event, Gregory, a senior from State College, Pa., had a bye in the opening round and fell to Fayta Amiri of St. Bonaventure, 7-5, 6-0.
Freshman Maxene Weinberg (Marietta, Ga.) competed in the qualifying event for the singles draw but fell in the opening round to Fordham's Bella Genkina, 6-4, 6-4.
Columbia's Nicole Bartnik defeated Yale's Elizabeth Epstein, 6-4, 6-3, to claim the Singles Championship.
Gregory went on to combine with sophomore Marie Gargiulo in the doubles event. Gregory and Gargiulo dropped an 8-1 decision to Boston College.
Weinberg joined up with sophomore Jennifer Learmonth (York, Pa.) to form UConn's second doubles tandem. Weinberg and Learmonth outdueled a duo from St. Peter's, 8-5, but later fell by the same score to Boston College. The Boston College duo would advance to the Championship, falling to their own teammates, Kymlev/Kelleher in the final.
