STORRS, Conn. - Senior outside hitter Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) and freshman middle blocker Erika Thomas (Ocoee, Fla.) led the way for the University of Connecticut volleyball team in a 3-0 victory over Harvard at Gampel Pavilion Friday night. Quayle recorded a match-high 13 kills, while Thomas netted 10 with a .526 hitting percentage.

The win came as the opening game of the New England Challenge and propelled the Huskies to 7-5 on the season. UConn returns to action to face Boston College and Northeastern, in Boston, tomorrow beginning at 1:00 pm.

The Huskies pulled out a 27-25 win in the first set and won the second, 25-17, before dominating in the third, 25-10.

Senior libero Kelsey Maving (Tonowanda, N.Y.) led all players with 26 digs, including 10 in the first set. She surpassed the 1,500-dig mark for her career in the match. Sophomore defensive specialist Brianna Datti (Durham, N.H.) also reached double figures with 12.

Freshman setter Marissa Prinzbach (Cincinnati, Ohio) totaled 38 assists and eight digs. Sophomore outside hitter Devon Maugle (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) chipped in with nine kills and nine digs.

For the Crimson, senior Taylor Docter paced the attack with 12 kills, while junior Erin Cooney contributed seven. Sophomore libero Kristen Casey posted a team-high 21 digs, while senior setter Beth Kinsella and freshman Hannah Schmidt split time with 14 and 13 assists, respectively.

As a team, Connecticut totaled 10 blocks to Harvard's six. Thomas led the way with nine, including three solos.

Sophomore DS Amy Christensen (Ashburn, Va.) registered four service aces in a five point span to push the UConn lead to 21-9 in the third set.
