It's been a busy summer for UConn rising sophomore forward Leon Tolksdorf, who played in more than 25 games with the German U20 National Team.
Tolksdorf, a 6-8 forward, was the team captain for the U20 German team, which competed in the U20 European Championships in July, following a lengthy preparation period, which included games as part of different tournaments in Turkey, France, Slovenia, and Italy.
During the preparation games, Tolksdorf averaged 13 points per game and was one of the team's top rebounders.
Tolksdorf, the only player to start every game for the U20 team, played in all nine games for the German U20 team in the European Championships as it posted a 5-4 record --- defeating Georgia, Lithuania, Turkey, Croatia, and Montenegro, while losing to Greece, Serbia, France, and Croatia.
Tolksdorf averaged 8.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 22.7 minutes per game during the European Championships, shooting 39.4 percent overall, 35.3 percent from three-point range, and 70.6 percent from the foul line. His best scoring outputs came against Georgia (14 points) and Greece (13), while he pulled down 12 rebounds against Lithuania.
Tolksdorf gained valuable experience last season as a freshman at UConn, pushing the more experienced Huskies in practice every day and appearing in 11 games. He shot 35.7 percent from three-point range, while averaging 1.7 points and 0.7 rebounds per game in a limited role.
