LANCASTER, Pa. - Former University of Connecticut field hockey standout Marie Elena Bolles (Phoenixville, Pa.) earned her first international cap in the U.S. Women's National Team's 3-0 win over Japan on Sunday.
The standout forward made the transition from the Junior National Team where she donned red, white and blue as a member of the U-21 National Team and played in the FIH Junior World Cup in Mochengladbach, Germany.
During her final season as a Husky in 2013, Bolles became the first-ever UConn player to be named the Division I National Player of the Year. She received the CWSA Honda Award and was tabbed as the NFHCA Mideast Region Player of the Year. She was a member of the All-Mideast Region First Team, Big East All-Tournament Team, NCAA All-Tournament Team and a First Team All-American during her senior campaign. Bolles made the All-Big East First Team every year and helped the Huskies win the 2013 National Championship. As a junior, she was named the Big East Offensive Player of the Year and made the All-America Third Team. The Pennsylvania native tallied 129 career points, which ranks eighth in UConn's history books.
