NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Rodney Purvis capped a 20-point performance with a clutch floater in the final minute, and Connecticut held off Tulane for its fifth straight victory, 75-67 on Saturday night.
Sterling Gibbs scored 13 Of his 16 points during the final 6:32 to help the Huskies (10-3, 1-0 American) avoid a stunning upset by the Green Wave (7-8, 0-2).
Daniel Hamilton added 19 for UConn, which is making a bid to get back into the Top 25, having received votes in the latest poll.
Louis Dabney had 14 points and Jernard Jarreau 13 points, 5 blocks and 2 steals for Tulane, which has lost two straight and four of five. Dylan Osetkowski added 11 points and 9 rebounds for the Green Wave, which trailed by 19 early in the second half, but briefly took a 60-59 lead before one of Gibbs' four 3-pointers gave UConn the lead for good.
