Women's Track and Field Participates in Terrier Classic

BOSTON- With the conference championship less than a month away, the UConn women's track and field team continued its indoor season on Friday, Jan. 29 with an impressive showing at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University.
"We had over 10 personal bests today," said second-year head coach J.J. Clark. "I thought we really competed with a lot of enthusiasm and confidence today. We had good effort and I expect us to continue to build on that over the next two weeks."
Toni-Ann Moore (8.92) opened up the track events with a ninth-place result in the 60m hurdles, checking in just ahead of teammate Ashley Wiggins (8.94), who took 11th. Hannah Parker (2:08.28) and Sydnee Over (2:08.56) shined in the 800m run, taking sixth and seventh, respectively.
Taylor Anderson picked up a fifth-place finish in the 60m hurdles (7.64), while Lisa Zimmer ran a season-best 1:13.83 in the 500m run en route to seventh overall.
UConn's 4x400m `A' squad that consisted of Paris Taft, Over, Zimmer and Parker nabbed a top-10 finish with a 3:46.23 second mark.
Megan Reese matched a season-best in the pole vault with a 3.60m mark, grabbing seventh and edging out teammate Gabriella Attanasio (3.50m). Senior Odrine Belot posted a season-best 12.27m leap in the triple jump, earning a silver medal. In the same event, Melodee Riley took fourth with a result of 12.01m.
Sarah Bowens collected another silver medal in the long jump, checking in with a 5.84m jump. Kelly Myers' 13.66m toss in the shot put marked a season-best and was good for fourth overall. The team also put together an impressive performance in the weight throw as sophomore Kelli Thomas picked up a bronze medal with a toss of 16.83m.
In State College, Pa., senior standout Saija Bikanova finished second overall in the pentathlon, amassing 3,693 total points and topping competition from South Carolina, Stanford and Penn State. The Huskies' DMR squad (Alexis Panisse, Deysha Smith-Jenkins, Kat Vodopia, Laura Williamson) finished fifth with a time of 11:19.99.
