STORRS, Conn. - Senior goaltender Elaine Chuli (Waterford, Ont.) was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season after her 72 save performance in the two-game sweep against Maine, which earned her the title of the new Hockey East all-time career saves leader.
Chuli stopped 39 pucks to keep the Huskies alive in Friday's 2-1 overtime victory against the Black Bears, putting her 33 saves away from breaking the Hockey East all-time career saves record, previously held by Roxanne Douville who had 2,143 saves.
A 33 save showing from Chuli in Saturday's 4-3 win against Maine brought her to 2,144 career saves in Hockey East games only and made her the new all-time career saves leader. Chuli went six-for-seven on the power play in the two-game series with the Black Bears.
The two wins brought Chuli's record in net this season to 9-10-2 and secured UConn the No. 4 spot and home ice in the first round of the Hockey East Tournament.
