Huskies Round Out First Day at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The UConn women's track and field team continued its outdoor season on Friday, April 1 when it concluded the first of two days at the 73rd annual Florida Relays.
In total, over 270 college, club, and professional teams and another 330-plus high school teams, amounting to over 4,200 competitors, will run at this year's Pepsi Florida Relays.
Senior standout Deysha Smith-Jenkins took 22nd in the 400m dash, crossing the finish line in 54.41 seconds, while three Huskies grabbed top-20 finishes in the 800m run, led by an eighth-place 2:07.17 second finish from senior Alexis Panisse. In the same event, Sydnee Over (2:08.70) and Kat Vodopia (2:09.33) took 14th and 19th, respectively.
Laura Williamson posted a 17th-place finish in the 1,500m (4:26.95), while Odrine Belot secured an eighth-place mark in the long jump with a 5.84m result.
In the discus throw, Megan Chapman took eighth with a 47.93m toss before Lisa Zimmer notched 19th in the 400m dash open with a caeer-best time of 55.66 seconds.
Sarah Bowens wrapped up action on the field, placing ninth in the long jump invitational (5.98m).
Smith-Jenkins also competed in the 200m dash invitational, nabbing sixth with a 23.66 second finish and turning in her best outdoor 200m performance since 2014.
SEC Network + will provide live streaming for the third day of competition, starting at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday (April 2).
