Women's Soccer Tops ECU

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team scored two first-half goals for a 2-1 win over ECU on Sunday afternoon at Morrone Stadium.
UConn improves to 3-5-3 overall with its first win since Sept. 7 and is 1-1 in the American Athletic Conference. ECU is 5-6-2 overall and 0-4 in the American.
All the scoring in the game took place in the first half as UConn made the game-winning goal when senior Sabrina Toole (Westport, Conn.) broke a 1-1 tie with an eight-yard shot from the left side of the box after taking a pass from junior defender Elena Santos (West Hartford, Conn.).
UConn out shot ECU in the game by a 14-4 count and held a 6-0 corner kick advantage.
UConn opened the scoring at the 10:03 mark of the game as sophomore midfielder Erin Spillane (River Vale, N.J.) scored on a corner kick near the post with the assist going to senior midfielder Danielle Gottwik (New Port Richey, Fla.)
The Pirates tied the game at 32:29 when Jenna Geist connected on a 12-yard shot from the middle of the box with Chentay Warnes picking up the assist.
Senior goalkeeper Courtney Hofer (Farmington, Conn.) picked up her first UConn career win by making one save. Hofer is in her first year with the Huskies after transferring from TCU.
The Huskies return to action next weekend as it hits the road for a pair of American games - at Tulsa on Thursday at 8 p.m. and at Memphis on Sunday at 2 p.m.
