Women's Soccer Tops Razorbacks in OT

STORRS, Conn. - UConn women's soccer freshman Kess Elmore (Liverpool, England) scored with 1:43 left in the first overtime period to lead the Huskies to a 2-1 win over Arkansas on Thursday night at Morrone Stadium.
UConn improves to 2-3-1 on the season while Arkansas is 4-3.
The Razorbacks dominated the game statistically as they outshot the Huskies 25-8 and had 15-4 corner kick advantage but could not capitalize on their opportunities.
After the Razorbacks dominated possession in the second half the Huskies responded with a solid stretch of play in the overtime period. Elmore and the Huskies capitalized with a breakaway goal from 16 yards out. Junior Vivien Beil (Jena, Germany) slid a perfect pass ahead to set up Elmore and she slid her shot past the Razorback's keeper to end the night a victor. The score was Elmore's third goal in the past two games.
The Huskies took a 1-0 lead at the 35:11 mark of the first half as sophomore Alex Casimiro (Prospect, Conn.) settled a pass down from the top of the box and perfectly lifted a shot into the back left corner of the net. Junior Liane Keegans (Ridgefield, Conn.) picked up an assist on the play.
Arkansas outshot the Huskies in the first half by an 8-6 count and had a 6-2 corner kick advantage.
The Razorbacks tied the game as freshman Parker Goins scored off a free kick for her fifth goal of the season at the 10:58 mark of the second half.
The Huskies victory is the first over an SEC opponent since defeating Georgia, 3-2 (2OT) in 2002 in Athens.
UConn returns to action on Sunday when it travels to the Bronx to take on Fordham at 1 p.m.
