UConn headed to Kansas and Oklahoma

To take on Wichita State and Tulsa
STORRS, Conn.—UConn is back on the road, this time headed to Kansas and Oklahoma for its first look at the 2018 volleyball squads for Wichita State and Tulsa.
Friday, Oct. 27th
UConn (11-11, 3-6 AAC) first stop will be in Kansas to battle The Shockers (9-11, 4-5 AAC) on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. in the Charles Koch Arena. Head Coach Chris Lamb is in his 19th season at the helm for Wichita State where he recently recorded a school record 15th-straight 20-win season. Lamb is assisted by Sean Carter—Associate Head Coach and Austin Hosto—Assistant Coach. The Huskies are down a pair of matches in the all-time series versus The Shockers.
Wichita State officially joined the American Athletic Conference on July 1, 2017 and proceeded to win the 2017 AAC Women's Volleyball Championships. Heading into the 2018 season The Shockers led in the preseason conference poll while nabbing two student-athletes on the preseason team. This Wichita State roster is a relatively young one; nine freshmen, seven sophomores, four juniors, and two seniors. The Shockers find themselves sixth in the conference.
Sunday, Oct. 28th
The Golden Hurricane (as of 10/24; 14-7, 6-3 AAC) are led by Head Coach Ryan Wills, who is in his fifth year. Wills is assisted by Brittnee Cooper and Ben Farmer. Tulsa is also a relatively young team with five freshmen, four sophomores, three juniors, and two seniors.
With the first meeting between the Huskies and the Golden Hurricane coming in 2014, Tulsa leads the all-time series with seven wins and one loss. In the AAC 2018 Women's Volleyball Standings, Tulsa sits at No.3 right behind UCF and Cincinnati.
In their last meeting on Nov. 11, 2017 Iman McGary nabbed 21 kills, Emma Turner complied 44 assists, and Elizabeth Kline had 21 digs.
This past week in Husky volleyball…
UConn hosted Tulane and Memphis over the weekend, pushing the Tigers into a five set battle on Sunday Oct. 21. Redshirt-sophomore Genna Florig had herself a block party against Tulane with five block assists. Florig was joined by freshman Anna Petrova who nabbed four.
Against the Tigers, the Huskies as a team had 11 blocks, 71 assists, 57 digs, with a hitting percentage of .319. Freshman Caylee Parker led the match in kills at 21 and was aided by fellow freshmen Kennadie Jake-Turner and Petrova with 16 apiece. Jake-Turner set season and career highs in kills (16), assists (1), points (19.5), and total blocks (7). Turner also set a season high in assists with 61.
