The Huskies tussle with The Shockers

Travel to take on Tulsa this Sunday
WICHITA, Kan.—The UConn (11-12, 3-7 AAC) women's volleyball team traveled to take on American Athletic Conference opponent Wichita State (10-11, 5-5 AAC) on Friday night.
The Huskies pushed through an off night, rallying from several deficits over the course of the three-set match but couldn't steal one from The Shockers. During the opening set UConn garnered the first points of the night as senior Emma Turner stepped back to serve. Redshirt-sophomore Genna Florig's kill opened the night up on an assist from Turner. The Huskies' 17 points was outshined by 25 from The Shockers.
UConn recovered in the following sets, throttling Wichita State with scores of 19-25 and 20-25. In Set Two The Shockers took a timeout after a successful Husky demonstration, bringing them within two at 17-19. The two teams traded blows during the final set as UConn began to inch closer to Wichita State, with the three of the final four points belonging to the Huskies. Senior Iman McGary started the journey to 25 with a crucial kill to position her team with 17. Moments later freshman Caylee Parkeradded a kill of her own drawing The Shockers nearer at 18-24. McGary struck back in an instant and was followed by Parker to get the Huskies to 20 all. The Shockers would ultimately halt the rally and seal the set with a kill.
As a team UConn tallied 112 total attacks, 40 kills, three service aces, 43 digs, and 4 blocks. The game saw a total of 12 ties and four lead changes. Parker ended the night deadlocked with a Shocker at 11 kills to lead both teams. Turner notched the top spot for assists, ending the match with a total of 32. Redshirt-senior Danielle Cabelhit a team high .444, as senior Elizabeth Kline added a double-digit dig effort at 11, and Florig supplied three blocks.
The Huskies continue their road trip to Oklahoma on Sunday, Oct. 28 to faceoff with Tulsa, The Golden Hurricane at 1:00 p.m.
