No. 24 Men’s Soccer Continues Conference Action with Cincinnati

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team (5-2-1) will look to remain unbeaten at home as they continue conference action this Saturday, Oct. 6 against Cincinnati. The Huskies will host the Bearcats at Morrone Stadium with the kickoff slated for 7 p.m. In honor of Mental Health Awareness Week, the Huskies will wear green armbands.

Heading into the Matchup…
- UConn is ranked No. 24 in the Top Drawer Soccer top-25 poll and is also receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll. This marks UConn's return to the national ranks for the first time since Aug. 28 when they were ranked No. 18 in the United Soccer Coaches top-25 poll.
- The Huskies lead the all-time series with Cincinnati 4-2-3 and have won the last two meetings.
- Abdou Mbacke Thiam is the AAC career goals leader (10) and has tallied a league-best 37 goals during his career.
- Thiam also currently ranks third in the NCAA in active career points (83) and second in active career goals (37).
- Two Huskies earned conference honors this past week – Jacob Hauser-Ramsey won his second AAC Defensive Player of the week award after helping anchor the Husky backline in a 2-0 shutout of Memphis, while Ibrahima Diop enters the game as the reigning conference Rookie of the Week after netting the his first career goal, securing the victory over the Tigers. Austin Aviza and Dayonn Harris were also named to the AAC Honor Roll.
Last Time Out…
UConn blanked Memphis in their last game, 2-0. After a scoreless first half, Dayonn Harris got the scoring started early in the second half, firing a dart through the low side from the top of the box to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. In the last minute, freshman Ibrahima Diop scored a breakaway goal, clinching the victory. Jacob Hauser-Ramsey helped anchor the Husky back line, while goalkeeper Austin Aviza patrolled the posts, tallying four saves.
Leading the Pack...
Ray Reid leads the Huskies in his 22nd season as the head coach. A four-time National Coach of the Year and National Champion, Reid boasts the second highest winning percentage (.745) among active coaches.
Next Up...
UConn will welcome Sacred Heart to Morrone Stadium for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. It will be Huskies and Heroes night, so all current and former military members will receive free admission into the game with a military ID.
