Emma Turner reaches 3,000 career assists
STORRS, Conn.—The UConn (10-7. 2-2 AAC) volleyball team hosted ECU (11-4, 3-1 AAC) on Friday night in their return to Gampel Pavilion after a three-game road trip. The Huskies fell to the Pirates in four sets, 3-1. Senior setter Emma Turner surpassed 3,000 career assists during the match up.
Freshman Anna Petrova and Redshirt-sophomore Genna Florig got the offense rolling to open the match with a kill a piece. Much like the last match with Temple, this opening set was a back-and-forth contest as both teams settled into the contest. The score was tied 10 times and the lead changed a total of 10 time in the first set. Not before, Redshirt-senior Danielle Cabel sealed the set with her own kill, 26-24.
UConn didn't go gently into the night in the following sets as they battled their way back into contention. Set two and three for the Huskies were only dropped by scores of 25-20 and 25-23, with the Pirates ultimately taking the final set 25-17. In total the score was tied 15 times and the lead changed six times throughout the night.
Freshman Kennadie Jake-Turner turned into UConn's primary offensive option, ending the match hitting .375. Jake-Turner bounced back from her opening set to help with Huskies by clipping .600 in the second set, .500 in the third, and .600 in the final set.
Petrova, Florig, and freshman Caylee Parker were all other Huskies with double digit kills on the night. While Turner set up her teammates 43 times, adding 11 digs to the UConn effort. Senior Elizabeth Kline aided Turner with 15 digs of her own
Continuing their brief homestand, the Huskies are back in action on Sunday, Oct. 7 at noon against the Cincinnati Bearcats. Don't forget the post-match clinic (participants must be eighth grade or below) and a chance to get autographs.
