No. 5 Huskies to Face No. 2 Maryland in NCAA Quarterfinals

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The No. 5 UConn field hockey team (19-3) faces No. 2 Maryland (20-2) in the NCAA Second Round Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. The game is a rematch of the 2017 NCAA Championship game, which the Huskies won.
LAST TIME OUT
The Huskies posted one of their best outings of the season, blanking No. 11 Rutgers 5-0 in the NCAA First Round. The team showed off a balanced attack with five different goal scorers: Svea Boker, Cecile Pieper, Maddy Wray, Karo Kueskes and Jessica Dembrowski. Cheyenne Sprecher made three second-half saves to keep the Scarlet Knights off the board.
UCONN-MARYLAND HISTORY
UConn holds a 2-6 record all-time vs. Maryland. The teams met earlier this season in Storrs, when the Terrapins picked up a 4-2 win over the Huskies. UConn and Maryland met in the NCAA Championship game last season, when the Huskies posted a 2-1 win to take the national championship.
SCOUTING THE TERRAPINS
Maryland advanced to the second round with a 2-1 win over No. 17 Albany in the first round. Linnea Gonzales and Nike Lorenz each have 14 goals to lead the Terps. Gonzales leads the team with 33 points. Sarah Holliday has started every game in goal and holds a 132 goals-against average and a .728 save percentage.
