STORRS, Conn.—The women's cross country team is traveling to Buffalo, N.Y. to compete in the 2018 Division I Northeast Region Cross Country Regionals on Friday, Nov. 9th.
Last season at the regional, the Huskies posted a top-20 finish, at 16th. The field was comprised of 37 total teams, running the 6k. While UConn would've liked to have a different finish, several student-athletes showed immense improvement. Mia Nahom set the pace for the Huskies finishing 29th overall with a time of 22:33.3 and first for UConn. Courtney Akerley just places behind Nahom, tabbed a top-40 finish at 22:40.1.
The team has posted finishes of first, third, sixth, fifteenth, and fifth at the American Athletic Conference Championship a couple of weeks back. At the AAC Championship Jaclyn Gallery earned 'Freshman of the Year' honors, the second year in a row that a Husky has garnered this award. Nahom and Gallery both earned a spot on the All-Conference team, the second consecutive year for Nahom.
UConn will look to build on this season's success on Friday as they take on Albany, Army West Point, Binghamton, Boston College, Boston U., Brown, Bryant, Buffalo, Canisius, Central Connecticut, Colgate, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Fairfield, Fordham, Hartford, Harvard, Hofstra, Holy Cross, Iona, Manhattan, Marist, New Hampshire, Niagara, Northeastern, Providence, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Siena, St. Francis, St. John's, Stony Brook, Syracuse, UMass Amherst, UMass Lowell, Vermont, Wagner, and Yale.
