STORRS, Conn. – For their outstanding performances during the 2018 UConn men's soccer season, four Huskies earned All-East Region Honors, as announced by the United Soccer Coaches earlier this week. Senior captains Abdou Mbacke Thiam and Jacob Hauser-Ramsey garnered All-East Region First team selections, while junior Dayonn Harris and senior Dylan Greenberg earned nods to the All-East Region Second and Third Teams, respectively.
All four players were selected to the American Athletic Conference First (Mbacke Thiam and Hauser-Ramsey) and Second Teams (Harris and Greenberg) at the end of the regular season – making them eligible for all-region honors.
UConn had four players represented on the list, while the American had 12 players total – with the AAC regular season champions UCF garnering a league-high five selections.
Thiam led the Huskies (12-6-2, 3-2-2 American) in all major offensive categories, including goals (15), assists (10), points (40) and shots (84). He ranked second in the American in points, goals and shots, while also finishing the season tied first in assists and game-winning goals.
It was the fourth-straight season for Thiam with double-digit goals, who now finishes his UConn career tied fourth all-time in the category with 46 scores. He was named AAC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 22 and earned five mentions on the weekly honor roll throughout 2018.
Hauser-Ramsey, the 2018 AAC Defensive Player of the Year, started in 20 matches for UConn, earning his second-career selection to the AAC First Team after helping the Husky defense to a 1.25 goals against average – fifth-best in the conference. UConn had five shutout wins, third-most in the league including three during a 10-game unbeaten streak between Sept. 8 and Oct. 23 in which it limited its opponents to two goals or less and forced three shutouts.
He was selected AAC Defensive Player of the Week four times, including three consecutive selections from Oct. 2 to Oct. 16., serving as an instrumental part of the UConn backline.
Harris was an integral part of the UConn offense, exploiting defenders every time he got the ball out on the flank. The Milton, Ontario native finished the 2018 campaign second on the team in the major offensive categories, including goals (5), assists (7), points (17) and shots (40). The forward's performance during the season earned him nods to the AAC All-Conference Second team and two mentions to the weekly honor roll.
Greenberg, who started 19 games for UConn at left back, earned his second All-Conference selection and first All-East Region team selection after a solid defensive season. He was an integral part of UConn posting a 10-match unbeaten streak over the course of a month and helped the Huskies hold opponents to 1.56 goals per game.
