Rowing in Midseason Form at Cherry Hill

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - The UConn rowing team enjoyed a tremendous day of competition at the Cherry Hill Invitational on Saturday morning, as the Huskies earned four second-place finishes in grand finals against the opposing field of programs.
Racing at the site of the American Athletic Conference Championship upcoming on May 12, UConn took advantage of the course - turning in its most impressive performance of the spring, from start to finish.
"Today was our best weekend of racing this season," said head coach Jennifer Wendry. "Our efforts to be patient in following the process paid off. Each boat took what we worked on in practice this week and applied it to our racing, and the results showed we are doing the right thing."
In the Second Varsity 8+, the Huskies finished in a time of 7:01.09, just nine seconds behind Rutgers for first place. UConn completed the Varsity 4+ in a time of 7:54.98, once again trailing only the Scarlet Knights.
Both UConn boats finished in the top four of the Second Varsity 4+, with the 'B' group taking second in a time of 8:12.84. The 'A' Boat took fourth by finishing eight seconds behind the SMU 'A' boat.
In addition, the Huskies took silver in the Third Varsity 8+ with a time of 7:31.47 - beating out host Bucknell by over half-a-minute.
"Our team performance across the board in the second round of races with little rest time between verified that the work we are doing in the weight room, and with additional workouts on the water, have given us a great fitness base," said Wendry. "That gave us an advantage today."
The Huskies have built up a lot of momentum heading into their final race before the AAC Championship, as they prepare for the Women's Sprints next Sunday in Worcester, Mass. - the site of their race against Holy Cross and Boston College on April. 8.
"I am proud of the team's efforts and excited to see what next week will bring," said Wendry.
