Husky Awards Show Held on Tuesday Evening

STORRS, Conn. - UConn athletics hosted the 2018 Husky Awards Show to honor UConn student-athlete and team accomplishments during 2017-18 season. The event took place on Monday evening in Rome Ballroom in Storrs.
The awards show was highlighted with the announcement of the winners of the yearlong Husky Cup competition, which recognizes the teams that show best practice team enhancement and community service. The 2017-18 Husky Cup was awarded to the men's and women's track & field teams.

The awards show was hosted by student-athletes Patrick Kavanaugh (men's swimming) and Batouly Camara (women's basketball), who opened the evening by recognizing the accomplishments of the 2017 field hockey team that took home the national championship in undefeated fashion.
The Male and Female Rookie of the Year awards were then presented to men's soccer's Blaise N'Gague and women's ice hockey's Natalie Snodgrass. Those awards were followed by the Kinsman Award, which is earned by the Husky who best exemplifies the term student-athlete. This year, the Kinsman Award went to Faith McCarthy from women's soccer and Derek Pratt from men's hockey.
Katie Foley (women's track & field) and PJ Garmon (men's track & field) were named as the winners of the Community Outreach Athlete of the Year award while field hockey's Nina Klein won the Individual Performance of the Year award and the women's basketball team won the Team Performance of the Year Award.
Chandler Ives, a standout pole vaulter for the men's track & field team was selected as the Courage Award winner and the individual awards were capped by men's soccer's Abdou Thiam winning the Male Athlete of the Year award and Gabby Williams winning the Female Athlete of the Year honor.
Additionally, senior student-athletes were honored on April 9 during the annual senior student-athlete reception. The honorees are listed below.
