Watson Pegged ILWomen's Lacrosse National Rookie of the Week

STORRS, Conn. ââ'¬" After a nationwide vote, freshman Sydney Watson was tabbed the ILWomen National Rookie of the Week, announced on Thursday afternoon.
Watson earned 46% of the fan vote, beating out Zoe Belodeau of Penn State (24%), Sam Fish of Princeton (7%) and Virginia Tech's Paige Petty (23%). This is Watson's first career Inside Lacrosse week honor.
On her way to earning the honor, Watson totaled nine points off five goals and four assists, along with 13 draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover. The rookie had a trio of assists at No. 23 Georgetown on Wednesday, including the helper on the game-tying goal with 2:02 to go. She posted a game-high nine draws against the Hoyas. In Sunday's crucial win over Vanderbilt, Watson scored five goals and added an assist, while winning four draws. The Huskies scored five of the final six goals against the Commodores to complete the comeback, with Watson scoring two during that span.
Earlier this week, Watson garnered BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week honors. UConn can clinch the final BIG EAST tournament spot when it travels to Milwaukee to face Marquette in the regular season finale on Saturday. First draw is slated for 12:00 p.m. (ET) at Valley Field.
