Caitlin Leary, Kiera Dalmass and Brooke Jensen will serve as captains of the lacrosse team.
Storrs, Conn. – UConn Lacrosse Head Coach Katie Woods has announced three captains for the Huskies' 2019 season.
Seniors Caitlin Leary, Kiera Dalmass and Brooke Jensen have each earned the role of captain on the squad for the spring season.
"Kiera, Caitlin, and Brooke are all great leaders for the program and together, I think they'll make a strong leadership team as we head into the inaugural season of the American Athletic Conference," said head coach Katie Woods. "They all have a strong passion for leading the program to new heights."
Leary is coming off a break-out junior campaign in 2018, posting career-best numbers with 42 points and 37 goals. She added a personal-high five helpers along the way. The Suffern, N.Y. native started all 17 games for UConn and collected a career-high 21 ground balls while forcing eight turnovers.
Dalmass was a staple on the Huskies' backline during her junior year, starting all 17 games played. Last season, Dalmass recorded a career-high 17 groundballs and 15 caused turnovers. The Moorestown, N.J. native is pursuing her Master of Science degree in statistics during her final year of lacrosse at UConn.
Jensen will return to the field after sitting out the 2018 season due to injury. Jensen has started all 27 career games play and currently ranks second in single game draw controls with eight. Upon her return, the midfielder looks to add to the Huskies offense as she is coming off the 2017 campaign with nine tallies and four helpers for 13 points.
Earlier this year, American Athletic Conference Commissioner Mike Aresco announced the addition of women's lacrosse as the Conference's 22nd sport beginning in 2019. The six-team league will be comprised of current conference members University of Cincinnati, UConn, East Carolina University and Temple University, as well as the University of Florida and Vanderbilt University as affiliate members.
