Huskies Welcome Iona, UNH & Syracuse for UConn Challenge

Huskies play Iona and UNH Friday; Syracuse on Saturday
STORRS, Conn. - The Huskies welcome Iona, New Hampshire and Syracuse to Gampel Pavilion this weekend for the two-day UConn Challenge. UConn will open the weekend on Friday at noon facing the UNH Wildcats and then take on the Iona Gaels at 7 pm. On Saturday, the Huskies will go toe-to-toe with Syracuse at 2 pm. For a full schedule and live stats and video links, click here.
- UConn opened the week with their first sweep of the season, taking down in-state rival Quinnipiac in three-straight in Tuesday night's home opener. Freshman Caylee Parker came up with 13 kills, her third-straight game in double digit kills, with four digs and two total blocks against QU.  Senior Iman McGary chipped in 12 kills and hit .375 in the match (13-8-34) and added five digs.  Senior setter Emma Turner dished out 40 assists, had four kills on six attempts, five digs, a block and served up a pair of aces.  The Huskies hit a season-best .357 (50-15-98) in the win.
- Parker earned herself a spot on the American Athletic Conference Volleyball Honor Roll after an impressive rookie debut last weekend. Â Parker posted 41 kills and 22 digs over the three matches while earning All-Tournament team honors at the WVU Invitational. Â Coming into this weekend, the rookie is third among AAC leaders in kills per set, averaging 4.15.
- Senior setter Emma Turner is one of three AAC setters to average double digit assists per set in the early weeks of the season. Â Turner enters the weekend averaging 10.25 assists per set. Â She also is the team leader with six service aces.
- Senior Elizabeth Kline leads the team with 70 digs and ranks fourth in the AAC at 4.38 digs per set.
- Thanks to a 3-1 start to the season, the Huskies have put head coach Kris Grunwald just one win away from reaching 100 career coaching victories. Â Grunwald is in his fifth season at UConn and had a two-year head coaching stint at Auburn to sit at 99-91 during his career.
- The Huskies will head to Chicago next weekend to take part in the DePaul Invitational. UConn will take on Florida Atlantic, Fort Wayne and the host Blue Devils.
