Huskies Set to Host Dog Pound Challenge

UConn faces Holy Cross, Rutgers and St. John's
STORRS, Conn. - The UConn volleyball team is back on their home court in Gampel Pavilion this weekend to host Holy Cross, Rutgers and St. John's for the 2018 Dog Pound Challenge. This weekend's event is also being held to help in raising animal awareness and to help benefit the Mansfield area animal shelters.

FUNDRAISING FOR ANIMAL SHELTERS
The Sigma Alpha Sorority in the UConn Department of Animal Science will be collecting dog toys, leashes, and food to benefit local animal shelters.  DONATE these items in person during the tournament or visit our GoFundMe page to donate money!
DOGS AND PUPPYÂ ADOPTIONS
Wings of Freedom Animal Rescue is back for another year and will be on-site with puppies and dog of all ages that are up for adoption. They will be setup outside Gampel Pavilion from 5pm-8pm on Friday, Sep. 14. You can also visit their website http://www.wingsoffreedomanimalrescue.org/ to learn more about the organization.
- The Huskies enter the weekend at 6-4 overall on the season after going 1-2 at last weekend's DePaul Invitational. UConn dropped a 3-0 decision to Florida Atlantic and picked-up their second sweep of the year with a 3-0 win over the host Blue Demons. The Huskies lost a tough five-set battle to Purdue Fort Wayne in the weekend finale. This week's three matches will be the Huskies' final tune-up before starting American Athletic Conference play next week. UConn will hit the road to start conference play with a trip to Texas next weekend facing SMU and Houston.
- UConn freshman Caylee Parker (Windsor, Ontario) continues to lead the Husky attack with 142 kills on the season, a 3.94 per set average. She currently ranks third in the AAC in kills per set. Last weekend, she took home All-Tournament team honors for the second time this season when she capped the DePaul Invitational with her fourth double double of the season thanks to a season-high 26 kills and 15 digs against Purdue Fort Wayne. She has hit the 20-plus kill mark twice this season.
- Senior libero Elizabeth Kline (Glenshaw, Pa.) was an All-Tournament team player for the Huskies for the third-straight weekend at last week's DePaul Invitational. In the lost to Purdue Fort Wayne, she had a season-high 25 digs and six assists. On the season, she leads the Huskies defensively with 162 digs, a 4.05 per set average. She ranks eight among AAC dig leaders.
- Senior setter Emma Turner (Winter Park, Fla.) picked-up her team-leading sixth double double against Purdue Fort Wayne with 34 assists and 16 digs. On the season, she is averaging 9.70 assists per set, first among all AAC setters. Â
