Huskies Begin Conference Play in Texas

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's soccer team begins American Athletic Conference play this weekend in the state of Texas. The Huskies face Houston on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. ET and close out the weekend with a trip to Dallas to face the Mustangs of SMU on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. ET.
UConn enters the conference season with a 2-7 record and look to bounce back after a tough 1-0 loss to Eastern Michigan this past Friday at Morrone Stadium. UConn dominated stretches of play during the match but were unable to put the ball in the back of the net.
UConn has gone 1-0-1 against the Mustangs and Cougars during their two trips to the lone star state in 2014 and 2016. Overall, the Huskies are 4-0-1 all-time against the Cougars and 6-0-1 in contests with the Mustangs. UConn is 30-11-4 in its five seasons in the American Athletic Conference with a pair of regular season and tournament championships.
UConn is led offensively by sophomore forward Sophia Danyko-Kulchycky and junior midfielder Erin Spillane. The duo have combined for six of the Huskies' nine goals this season. Randi Palacios has started all nine games in goal for UConn and has recorded 44 saves in 765 minutes. Elena Santos, Yamilee Eveillard and Melina Couzis all have contributed a pair of assists each for the UConn attack.
