WSOC Drops Road Contest at Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The UConn women's soccer team (2-2-3) suffered a 2-0 defeat to Harvard on Sunday afternoon at Jordan Field.
The game remained even until late in the first half with goalkeeper Ava Yamas making a couple of point blank saves in the eighth minute.
Just a couple minutes later, midfielder Anya Montano had to clear a shot off the goal line to keep the game a stalemate.ย
Junior Chloe Shimkin almost gave the Huskies the lead a few moments later with a great strike on a free kick that just sailed over the crossbar.ย
Harvard broke through with 1:09 left in the first half to take a 1-0 lead.ย
Se-Hanna Mars created an equalizer opportunity in the early stages of the second half with a curling shot that was parried away by the Crimson keeper and hit the back post before it was cleared away.
Harvard created insurance in the 63rd minute with a goal by Brooke Huleatt to make it 2-0.ย
Gabby Miller had a rebound shot chance to cut into the deficit with under five minutes left in regulation but her shot missed wide.ย
The Huskies outshot the Crimson 14-11 on the afternoon and had a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
Next up, UConn wraps up non-conference play with a home match against Vermont on Friday, September 25 at 7 p.m.
