Huskies Open AAC Play in Texas

UConn heads to SMU and Houston this weekend
STORRS, Conn. – The Uconn volleyball heads to the state of Texas this weekend to open up the American Athletic Conference schedule with matches at SMU and Houston. The Huskies finished up non-conference play at 8-5 after wins over Rutgers and Holy Cross at last weekend's Dog Pound Challenge.
UConn will take on the SMU Mustangs on Friday night at Moody Coliseum. SMU heads into the weekend and conference play after playing to a 3-7 mark in non-conference play. The Mustangs were picked to finish fourth in the AAC preseason poll. On Sunday, the Huskies will head to Houston to face a Cougar team that blazed through their non-conference schedule at 13-2. Houston was tabbed to finish eighth in this year's preseason rankings.
Senior Danielle Cabel (Bettendorf, Iowa) is coming off a strong weekend where she earned All-Tournament honors in the Dog Pound Challenge. Cabel collected 29 total kills on the weekend, a 2.9 kills per set average. She had back to back 10 kill matches in wins over Holy Cross and Rutgers. She is second on the team with 114 kills, 2.28 per set, and is third on the team with 23 total blocks.
Senior setter Emma Turner (Winter Park, Fla.) is the AAC leader in assists per set, averaging 9.74 on the season. She is also the team-leader with seven double double efforts on the year. Defensively, Turner is second on the Huskies with 130 digs, 2.60 per set.
Senior libero Elizabeth Kline (Glenshaw, Pa.) is ninth in the conference averaging 4.10 digs per set after collecting 205 digs over the first 13 matches this season. She earned All-Tournament team honors this past weekend and did so at all four tournaments this fall. In the four-set win over Rutgers, Kline eclipsed the 20-plus dig mark for the third time this year when she picked-up 23.
R-Sophomore Genna Florig (Portland, Ore.) is among the conference leaders in blocks with 50 total on the season, a 1.04 per set average that puts her eighth in the rankings.Â
Senior Iman McGary (Rockford, Ill.) hit the 100-kill plateau for the season last weekend. Freshman Anna Petrova (Voronzeh, Russia) has 89 kills this season but is second on the team with a 2.47 kills per set average.
Freshman Caylee Parker (Windsor, Ontario) enters conference play ranked third in the AAC with 173 kills, a 3.84 kills per set average for the season. Parker is third on the team with 95 digs, 2.11 per set, and has five double double efforts on the year.
