Huskies Drop AAC Opener at SMU

Parker nabs sixth double double
DALLAS, Texas – The UConn volleyball team opened up the 2018 American Athletic Conference schedule on Friday night at SMU, falling to the Mustangs in four sets, 3-1. The Huskies drop to 8-6 overall and 0-1 in the AAC with the loss. SMU improved to 4-7 and 1-0.
The Huskies looked to be closing in on winning the first set but SMU rallied from down 24-20 to take the opening frame, 29-27. The Huskies rebounded in the second set 25-22 but the Mustangs answered with 25-17 and 25-15 wins to close it out.
UConn freshman Caylee Parker (Windsor, Ontario) recorded her sixth double double of the season finishing with 12 kills and 15 digs in the loss. Classmate Anna Petrova (Voronezh, Russia) posted double digit kills as well with 10 and added a pair of blocks.
Senior setter Emma Turner (Winter Park, Fla.) passed out 47 assists and just missed a double double with nine digs. Senior libero Elizabeth Kline (Glenshaw, Pa.) added 14 digs.
SMU got 14 kills and 13 digs from Brittany Adams and 23 assists and 14 digs from Kendall Patterson for matching double doubles in the win.
The Huskies will return to action on Sunday afternoon with a stop in Houston to battle the Cougars.
