No. 2 UConn Beats William & Mary, 6-1

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Redshirt freshman Cheyenne Sprecher had a career-high eight saves to help vault the No. 2 UConn field hockey team (9-0) past William & Mary (3-4), 6-1, Sunday afternoon.
The Huskies, who have the top-ranked offense nationally, showed off a balanced offense with six different goal scorers: Amelia Iacobucci, Svea Boker, Abby Gooderhamn, Cecile Pieper, Maddy Wray and Vivienne Tucker. Gooderham finished with a pair of assists while Pieper, Wray and Tucker each had one.
Iacobucci started the scoring at 5:23, taking a Gooderham assist, spinning and shooting the ball past the keeper. After the Tribe tied less than a minute later, Boker gave the Huskies the lead back with a goal at 10:44.
Wray notched her second goal of the year off an assist from Pieper at 16:38. Gooderham took the ball off a deflection to score at 18:05. Pieper tallied the final goal of the half at 22:51, finding the back of the cage off a corner opportunity at 22:51.
Tucker posted the only goal of the second half, taking a pass from Wray and scoring on the far side.
The Huskies held advantages in shots (22-13) and corners (11-7).
UConn is one of just three undefeated teams remaining in Division I.
UConn returns to the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex next weekend to host Temple Friday at 6 p.m. and No. 3 Maryland Sunday at noon.
