No. 2 Huskies Fall to No. 3 Maryland, 4-2

STORRS, Conn. – Redshirt senior Cecile Pieper scored twice as the No. 2 UConn field hockey team (10-1) fell short to No. 3 Maryland (12-0), 4-2, Sunday afternoon at the Sherman Family Sports Complex.
Redshirt freshman Cheyenne Sprecher finished with a career-high nine saves vs. the Terrapins.
Both of Pieper's goals came in the final 10 minutes of play. On her first, she took a pass from Svea Boker and beat the goalkeeper with a hard shot at 61:45. Pieper tallied another goal at 66:42 off a penalty corner with assists to Boker and Antonia Tiedtke.
The Terps notched their first three goals in the first half off penalty corner opportunities. Maryland added another goal at 38:30 in the second half.
Maryland held a 19-8 lead in shots and an 8-1 advantage in penalty corners.
The game was a rematch of the 2017 NCAA Championship game, which the Huskies won 2-1.
UConn is back in action Friday, Oct. 5, at Providence at 6 p.m. The Huskies will host Senior Day next Sunday, Oct. 7, vs. Princeton at noon.
