No. 1 Huskies Travel to UMass, No. 10 Syracuse

STORRS, Conn. – The No. 1 UConn field hockey team (4-0) hits the road this weekend to face UMass (2-2) and No. 10 Syracuse (3-0). The Huskies take on the Minutewomen Friday at 6 p.m. and the Orange Sunday at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out
UConn came from behind to beat No. 5 Michigan, 2-1, last Sunday. After the Wolverines took a 1-0 lead just four minutes into the game, freshman Abby Gooderham tied the game at 46:50. Sophomore Jessica Dembrowski notched the game-winner off a penalty corner at 64:38. The Huskies held a 20-3 shot advantage.

Scouting the Minutewomen
UMass fell to No. 5 Michigan and defeated Vermont last weekend. Antonet Louw leads UMass with six goals and 12 points and Lucy Cooper has the team lead with three assists. Johanna von dem Borne has started all four goals in goal and holds a 2.39 goals-against average and a .750 save percentage.

Scouting the Orange
Syracuse beat Stanford in overtime last Saturday to move to 3-0 on the year. Chiara Gutsche leads the team with three goals and six points. Borg van der Velde has played every minute in goal and holds a 0.64 goals-against average and a .846 save percentage.

In the Rankings
The Huskies are ranked No. 1 in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll. Syracuse moved up to No. 10 this week in the poll. The Orange are the fourth ranked opponent the Huskies have faced this season.

UConn Named BIG EAST Favorites
For the ninth straight season, the Huskies were predicted to finish first in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll. UConn has won five straight BIG EAST titles and are on a 25-game regular season win streak in conference play, dating back to 2013.

Senior Amanda Collins and junior Svea Boker were named preseason All-BIG EAST. Collins, also captain for the upcoming season, was tabbed preseason Co-Offensive Player of the Year.
