Huskies Fall to Brown and Dartmouth on Opening Weekend

HANOVER, N.H. – The UConn women's tennis team opened their spring season over the weekend at Dartmouth College, falling to the Brown Bears, 6-1, and to the host Big Green, 7-0.
Senior Jacquelyn Fitz-Randolph (Tampa, Fla.) picked-up a pair of victories in the loss to Brown. The senior won her singles match, claiming the Huskies lone point by beating Taylor Cosme in three-sets. Fitz-Randolph battled back from a 6-4 loss in the first to win 6-3 and 10-7.
She also notched a doubles win, partnering with freshman Mireille Moreau (Warwick, Quebec) to beat Devon Jack and Courtney Kowalsky at No. 1, 6-0.
In the loss to to Dartmouth, the Huskies grabbed a doubles win at No. 3 with the sophomore-freshman tandem Elizabeth Kozyi (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Luciana Rabines (Barcelona, Spain) winning 7-5 over Madison Hwang and Allison Chung.
Rabines lost a tough three-set battle in the match with Brown, falling at No. 5 to Juliana Simon. Rabines dropped the first set 6-7, rebounded for a 7-6 win in the second but fell in the tie-breaker third, 10-7.
The Huskies will play their first home match of the spring this Friday, Feburary 1st when they host the Drexel Dragons at the Magic Lincer Tennis Club in Manchester at 5 pm
