HOUSTON – The top-ranked UConn women's basketball team (11-1) opens American Athletic Conference play Sunday at Houston (6-7) at noon ET. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network and the UConn/IMG Radio Network.
Connecticut is 96-0 all-time in American Athletic Conference regular season games. The Huskies have won five straight American regular season and tournament titles.
The Huskies suffered their first setback of the season Thursday, falling to No. 8 Baylor, 68-57, in Waco. Seniors Katie Lou Samuelson and Napheesa Collier each had double-doubles but the team shot just 29.4 percent from the field in the top-10 matchup.
The Huskies will look to bounce back against the Cougars as UConn hasn't lost back-to-back games since 1993, good for a streak of 937 games.
Samuelson and Collier have led the Huskies on the court this season as they rank No. 1 and 2 on the team in points and rebounds. Collier has eight double-doubles this season while Samuelson has four straight.
UConn is 6-0 all-time vs. Houston with all meetings coming in American play. The Cougars are coming off a 61-44 win at Southern Miss on Dec. 30 to finish nonconference play with a 6-7 record. This season, Jasmyne Harris leads Houston with 16.8 points per game while Alyssa Okoene leads the team with 7.1 rebounds per game.
