BHUBANESWAR, India – Former UConn field hockey standout Casey Umstead was selected to the 20-athlete traveling roster for the U.S. National Team at the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifier in India.
The No. 13 United States will face No. India on Nov. 1 and 2 and Kalinga Stadium. The qualifier will decide which team will compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Umstead helped Team USA to the bronze medal at the 2019 Pan American Games in August. She played in her first cap as a member of the Senior National Team in November 2018.
Umstead is a 2018 alumna of UConn. She was an NFHCA First Team All-American in 2017 and helped UConn to the 2014 and 2017 NCAA Championships.
From Sept. 24 to 27, USA hosted No. 15 Canada at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa. for a three-game series that included one unofficial sanctioned game and two sanctioned matches. In the unofficial game, Canada came out victorious 3-1. The first sanctioned contest was a reverse score of the previous meeting as USA won 3-1. The second official match went in favor of Canada, 4-1, to split the series.
