No. 3 Huskies Post Third Straight Shutout at Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The No. 3 UConn field hockey team (13-2, 5-0 BIG EAST) notched its third straight shutout as the Huskies beat Villanova (6-7, 1-4), 7-0, Friday afternoon.
Five of UConn's seven goals were scored by backs as each of the Huskies' starting defenders notched at least one goal. Senior Antonia Tiedtke scored once while adding three assists. Junior Kourtney Kennedy, sophomore Abby Gooderham, sophomore Lindsay Dickinson, freshman Claire Jandewerth, senior Svea Boker and junior Jessica Dembrowski each scored vs. Villanova.
Redshirt sophomore Cheyenne Sprecher and the UConn defense hasn't allowed a goal in 212:13.
The Huskies first three goals came in a flurry as Kennedy, Tiedtke and Dickinson notched scores within two minutes of each other at the end of the first quarter.
The score remained 3-0 until the final quarter. Gooderham and Jandewerth notched goals off penalty corners within two minutes of each other. At 49:12, Boker scored her team-leading 13th goal of the season. Dembrowski finished the scoring at 51:35.
The Huskies outshot the Wildcats 18-5 and didn't allow a Villanova shot in the second half. UConn also had an 11-5 advantage in penalty corners.
The Huskies return to the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex Sunday to face No. 15 Syracuse at 1 p.m.
