No. 3 UConn Falls to No. 15 Syracuse in Shootout

STORRS, Conn. – The No. 3 UConn field hockey team (13-3) dominated in every stat category but fell to No. 15 Syracuse (9-5), 1-0, in a shootout Sunday afternoon at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
The Huskies outshot the Orange 24-8 and had a 13-1 advantage in penalty corners.
Redshirt sophomore Cheyenne Sprecher made five saves, including two in the first overtime. Senior Svea Boker led UConn with seven shots while freshman Sophie Hamilton had six.
The teams were evenly matched in the first half before UConn put the pressure on offensively. The Huskies had six shots and four corners in the third quarter.
In the first overtime, UConn dominated with five penalty corners and five shots, but were unable to find the back of the goal.
The Huskies had a few close chances with balls hitting the post or going high.
Syracuse keeper Sarah Sinck made 11 saves to keep UConn off the board.
The Huskies return to action at No. 17 Liberty next Saturday at noon. UConn can clinch at least a share of the BIG EAST regular season championship with a win.
