WHOC Opens 2019-20 Season At LIU

STORRS, Conn. – After a 2-0 weekend that saw the team outscore its opponents 9-2 through two exhibition contests, the UConn women's hockey team hits the road for Brooklyn as they prepare to face the LIU Sharks in a season-opening weekend series. Friday's game is scheduled for a 3 pm puck drop, with the teams returning to the ice for game to Saturday night at 7:45. Both contests will be played at the IceWorks facility.

What to Know:
- The Huskies went 2-0 in their exhibition contests last week, defeating Ryerson 5-1 Friday night before cruising to 4-1 victory over NWHL member Connecticut Whale. Eight different Huskies found the back of the net – Claire Peterson struck twice for UConn while Danika Pasqua, Taylor Wabick, Natalie Snodgrass, Morgan Wabick, Coryn Tormala, Briana Colangelo and Viki Harkness each tallying one goal apiece.
- UConn finished the 2018-19 season 14-18-4, which included a trip to the Hockey East Quarterfinals.
- The Huskies return 88-percent of their point production from a season ago, including goals (15) and points (29) leader Natalie Snodgrass as well as team captain Briana Colangelo, who led the Huskies with 18 assists.
- UConn welcomed seven new additions to the program. The class features one graduate transfer – Jessie Aney, and six freshman – Coryn Tormala, Ainsley Svetek, Amy Landry, Kate Thurman, Claire Peterson and Kaitlyn Yearwood
Leading the Pack:
Chris MacKenzie enters his eighth season leading the UConn women's hockey team. MacKenzie has won over 100 games during his time at UConn and has been an instrumental part in turning the program around. In 2015-16, Mackenzie coached UConn to their first winning season since 2010.
