STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team wrapped up the 2019 regular season in dominating fashion when they beat the Tulsa Golden Hurricane 6-3 Tuesday night at Dillon Stadium. With the victory, the Huskies improved to 5-11-1 and locked up the sixth and final spot in the American Athletic Conference Tournament.
UConn got off to a relatively quick start when Dayonn Harris collected the ball just outside the box, cut back to his right and slotted one into the bottom left corner for his second goal of the season to put the Huskies up 1-0. Jake Dengler earned his first assist of the season after delivering the ball to Harris.
Three minutes later, the Huskies struck again, this time off the foot of Moussa Wade. The freshman received a touch pass from Dengler and drilled a shot from 22-yards out for his first career goal.
UConn would grab a commanding 3-0 lead in the 41'. Robin Lapert's initial penalty kick was knocked down by the Tulsa keeper, but the junior collected his own rebound and headed one into the back of the net for his third score of the year.
The Huskies would push their lead to four just 10 minutes into the half on Wade's second strike of the night.
The Golden Hurricane would break through onto the scoreboard shortly after when Marcos Moreno finished inside following a corner kick.
In the 65', Ibrahima Diop drove in a free kick from the far right, just outside the box, to put the Huskies up four before Ahdan Tait tapped in a pass from Thomas Decottignies to give UConn a 6-1 advantage with just over 20 minutes remaining in the game.
Tulsa would add two late goals to cut into the deficit, but the Huskies would go on to claim the 6-3 win.
