Top-Seeded Huskies Blank Providence, Advance to Championship Game

HAMDEN, Conn. – Sophomore Maddy Wray posted three points to lead the top-seeded and No. 3 UConn field hockey team past fourth-seeded Providence, 2-0, Friday at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium.
The Huskies will compete in their 18th straight BIG EAST Championship final on Sunday. UConn is seeking its eighth straight BIG EAST Tournament championship.
Senior Antonia Tiedtke also scored against the Friars while senior Svea Boker had an assist.
Redshirt sophomore Cheyenne Sprecher posted three saves in her 11th shutout of the season.
After a scoreless first half, Tiedtke notched the first goal of the game at 33:48. After inserting a penalty corner, Wray picked up a rebound and found Tiedtke at the goal post for the score.
On a breakaway, Wray grabbed a fast pass from Boker inside the circle for a direct shot and the second goal at 49:05.
UConn led 20-5 in shots and 8-2 in corners.
The Huskies will face either Old Dominion or Liberty in the championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
