No. 1 Seed UConn to Face No. 2 Old Dominion for BIG EAST Title

HAMDEN, Conn. - The top-seeded and third-ranked UConn field hockey team (17-3) takes on second-seeded and 18th-ranked Old Dominion (11-6) in the BIG EAST Championship game Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Huskies are seeking their eighth straight and 18th overall BIG EAST Tournament championship. UConn entered this weekend as the No. 1 seed after winning the regular season title for the seventh straight season.

LAST TIME OUT
The Huskies blanked Providence, 2-0, in the BIG EAST semifinals. Senior Antonia Tiedtke and sophomore Maddy Wray scored for the Huskies. Redshirt sophomore Cheyenne Sprecher posted three saves in her 11th shutout of the season.
HUSKIES EARN BIG EAST AWARDS
UConn raked in numerous BIG EAST end-of-season honors this week. Senior Svea Boker was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Year while redshirt sophomore Cheyenne Sprecher was tabbed the Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Nancy Stevens, Paul Caddy and Cheri Schulz were tabbed the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year.
Boker and Sprecher were joined on the first team by freshman Sophie Hamilton. Senior Antonia Tiedkte and sophomore Abby Gooderham were named All-BIG EAST Second Team.
BEASTS OF THE BIG EAST
UConn has won 39 straight BIG EAST regular season games, dating back to the 2013 season. The Huskies have won seven straight BIG EAST regular season and six straight tournament titles.
ALUMS QUALIFY FOR OLYMPICS
Former UConn standouts Roisin Upton (Ireland) and Cecile Pieper (Germany) helped their home nations qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics earlier this week. Upton helped Ireland qualify for the country's first-ever Olympics. Pieper, a 2016 bronze medalist, helped the German National Team advance.

The Huskies remain at No. 3 in the latest NFHCA Coaches Poll and No. 4 in the latest NCAA RPI. UConn will play its 13th game against a ranked opponent on Sunday.

Old Dominion beat Liberty, 3-1, in the BIG EAST semifinals. This season, Rebecca Birch leads the Monarchs with nine goals and 25 points. Cam MacGillivray has started every game in goal and holds a 1.72 goals-against average and .708 save percentage.
