Second Half Spark Leads MBB Past Sacred Heart

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's basketball team utilized a second half spark to surge to a 89-67 win vs. Sacred Heart on opening night at Gampel Pavilion.
The Huskies (1-0) led 40-37 after a sloppy first half but responded with 18-4 run in the first five minutes of the second half to break the game open.
Josh Carlton and Christian Vital came alive in the second, scoring 14 and 15 points, respectively. Vital went 6-7 from the floor including a perfect 3-3 from downtown.
UConn distanced themselves from the Pioneers with a 32-14 edge in points in the paint and had a 17-3 advantage in second chance points.
Brendan Adams (15 points), Sidney Wilson (13 points) and Tyler Polley (10 points) joined Carlton and Vital in double figure scoring.
Carlton finished the night leading the Huskies with 18 points while Akok Akok, in his first official collegiate game, led the Huskies with four blocks.
The Huskies return to the court on Wednesday, November 13 at Gampel Pavilion against Saint Joseph's at 7 p.m.
