The Huskies had stellar performances from returners and newcomers at the Colyear-Danville Season Opener, something Director of Track & Field Greg Roy was very pleased to see.
"We have some intermediate goals for heading towards the conference meet and we are in position to achieve those," said Roy. "We have to learn how to win as a team, build this team and build the culture. And all those things showed today. We had a great UConn team presence today."
"I was pretty excited. Mikyla Rodger in the shot put, we were excited for her first collegiate win. Kristina Cherrington ran up to the 800 meters today and did a great job."
Senior Kristina Cherrington was the Huskies' top-finisher in the 800m race, taking sixth with a personal best time of 2:16.12. Sophomore Mikyla Rodger took first place in the shot put with a distance of 13.78m.
"We competed hard and well and were aggressive and not afraid. A lot of good things all around."
A pair of sophomores Kate Daley and Emma Krebs took sixth and seventh respectively in the one mile race, coming in with times of 5:13.70 and 5:15.02.
The Huskies' team "A" also took first place in the 4x400m race. Parms, Gbolade, Nelson, and Cherrington nabbed the top spot with a time of 3:47.81.

UConn's top-finisher in the triple jump was senior Gabriella Gavalas, who took third place with a distance of 11.35m. Freshman Kaitlyn Conte nabbed fifth place in the weight throw with a distance of 13.94m.
"It's been an amazing three or four months since we combined the programs. Seeing the athletes today really supporting each other in a way that will help us to keep building this culture, which was great. Holding each other accountable, finding motivation, and pushing each other. They are making each better. This has been a great experience and I am really excited for where we are headed."
