STORRS, Conn.—The UConn women's track and field team will be traveling a couple of miles north to Boston, Mass. to compete in the Scarlet & White Invite hosted by the Terriers of Boston University. The one day meet will begin Saturday, Feb. 2nd with field events starting at 11:00 a.m. and track events to follow 30 minutes later.
Last indoor season, the Huskies had tremendous success at this meet as Susan Aneno ran a national qualifying time to win the 800m race at 2:05.82. Kristina Cherrington, Kat Surin, Katie Foley, and Aneno made up the 4x400m Relay team who blasted their way into UConn's Indoor Track and Field Record Book with a fourth place finish and time of 3:40.31, which ranks third in the indoor program. In addition to these successes, the Huskies tacked on 15 personal best performances as well as several student-athletes with top-10 finishes.
Fast forward to this year's indoor campaign, UConn is trending in the right direction with three very successful meets under their belt. To kick start the 2019 season at the Nittany Lion Challenge, the Huskies nabbed three first-place finishes in the Mile—Aneno, Weight Throw—Amaris Blount, and Shot Put—Divine Oladipo. UConn carried that same focus into the Vanderbilt Invitational, where three student-athletes broke Vandy established records. In the 800 Meters Aneno's time of 2:03.94 was good enough for a second place finish, the No. 2 time in the country, and severed the 2017 time of 2:04.24. Taylor Woods leapt her way over the 5.99m long jump record to finish sixth at 6.03m (19' 91/2).Blount surpassed the 17.82m record in the Weight Throw at 19.13m (62' 91/4) for a fifth place finish. Head Coach J.J. Clark switched up roles for the Columbia Challenge, putting student-athletes in events that would hone their skills for the championship part of the season. At the challenge, the Huskies notched 22 top-20 finishes while continuing their streak of establishing student-athlete personal bests.
