Huskies Take Down Detroit Mercy

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The UConn women's tennis team closed out their trip to Michigan with a 5-2 win over Detroit Mercy on Sunday morning, their first dual match win of the spring season.
The Huskies set the tone by sweeping all three doubles matches to earn the opening point. The senior - freshman combo of Gillian Perrotta (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and Julieanne Bou (New Braunfels, Texas) got it started for the Huskies with a 6-3 win over Chelsea Apawti and Jasmine Apawti, posting their 12th win as a duo this season. The No. 3 team of junior Cassie Chung (Vancouver, British Columbia) and freshman Mireille Moreau (Warwick, Quebec) clinched the point by winning 6-2 over Ksenia Providokhina and Sara Mitrakovic.
The No.3 team of senior Jacquelyn Fitz-Randolph (Tampa, Fla.) and freshman Luciana Rabines (Barcelona, Spain) made it a sweep with a 6-2 win over Iris Thioux and Sophie Torcello.
In singles action, the Huskies won the No. 3 through No. 6 spots to seal the 5-2 win. Chung was a double winner on the day thanks to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Providokhina at No. 4. Rabines also won in singles play, taking down Torcello at No. 5 , 6-1 and 6-2. Bou won her team-best 11th singles match with a 6-4 and 6-1 win over Chelsea Apawti at No. 3, 6-4 and 6-1.
Sophomore Elizabeth Kozyi (Boca Raton, Fla.) won 6-0 and 6-2 over Sara Mitrakovic at No. 6 to close out the UConn win.
The Huskies are back in state next weekend when they take on Seton Hall on February 17 at Yale University.
