GOODYEAR, Ariz. --- UConn senior Nick Harrington (Chaplin, Conn.) shot a dazzling 6-under par 66 Monday, equaling the best individual round of the Loyola Intercollegiate tournament as he led UConn to a third-place finish in its first competition of the spring season.
Harrington's 66 was his best round of the 2018-19 year and equaled the best round of his college career. His aggregate 4-under 70-74-66=210 also put him in a tie for fourth place in the 100-player field, the best finish of his college career. It upped Harrington's totals to four sub-70 rounds this year and eight rounds of par or better.
Harrington's final round led the Huskies to a third-round 279, the second-best team round of the tourney and lifted UConn to a 3-under 292-290-279=861, finishing behind only team champion UAB (-18) and second-place Elon (-5) in the 17-team field. It was UConn's fourth Top Five finish in six tournaments this year. The tourney was played at the Palm Valley Golf Club.
Harrington had plenty of solid support from his UConn teammates as redshirt junior Drake Hull (Rutland, Vt.) shot a 1-under 72-73-70=215 to tie for 11th place. Hull's now has 10 rounds of par of better this year. Senior Jimmy Hervol (Hopkinton, Mass.) had two rounds under par with a 1-over 75-71-71=217 to tie for 17th place, upping his total of par-or-better rounds to 10 this year and 52 in his outstanding career.
Rounding out the UConn team was junior Tim Umphrey (Northborough, Mass.), who tied for 27th place with a 3-over, 75-72-72=219, which upped his par-or-better rounds this year to 14, and senior Nabeel Khan (Westerville, Ohio), who shot an 8-over 75-75-74=224 to tie for 62nd place.
Competing as individuals, UConn redshirt sophomore Chandler Morris (Hobe Sound, Fla.) tied for 17th with a 1-over 73-73-71=217 and sophomore Jack Boulger (Walpole, Mass.) tied for 48th place with a 6-over 75-75-72=222. Morris now has four rounds of par-or-better this year and it was the first for Boulger.
The Huskies will continue the spring portion of their schedule on March 4-5, as they travel to Florida to compete in the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club.
