Feole Among Nation's Best on Golden Spikes Watch List

DURHAM, N.C. – USA Baseball announced its preseason Golden Spikes Award watch list on Thursday, and UConn left-handed pitcher Mason Feole is featured among 55 of the nation's top amateur players, from high school and college baseball.
The Golden Spikes Award Advisory Board will maintain a rolling list of players, allowing athletes to play themselves into consideration for the award throughout the season.
The Wakefield, R.I. native has received preseason All-America recognition this offseason with three publications naming Feole an All-American. D1Baseball (third team), Collegiate Baseball (first team) and NCBWA (second team) all dishing out All-America honors. The American Athletic Conference named Feole its Preseason American Conference Pitcher of the Year
Feole posted a stellar sophomore season that ended with him being selected to pitch on the 2018 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. He was named an All-American by ABCA/Rawlings Third Team All-American, Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America and the end of the 2018 campaign. The left-hander was also an ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team performer along with being First Team American Athletic Conference. He became the ace of the UConn pitching staff midway through last season and led the Huskies in ERA (2.50), wins (9), starts (16), inning pitched (100.2) and strikeouts (120). He became the first pitcher since Colin McLaughlin (1979) to record 120 strikeouts in a single-season.
Feole becomes the third Husky in the past four seasons to land on the Preseason Golden Spikes Watch List. Tim Cate (2018) and Anthony Kay (2016) both entered the season on the watch list.
Amateur baseball fans will be able to vote for their favorite players at GoldenSpikesAward.com again in 2019, starting on May 15 with the naming of the Golden Spikes Award semifinalists. The list of semifinalists will also be sent to a voting body consisting of baseball media members, select professional baseball personnel, current USA Baseball staff and 40 previous winners of the award, representing a group of more than 200 voters.
USA Baseball will announce the finalists on May 29 and fan voting will open at GoldenSpikesAward.com concurrently and will remain open through June 10.
The winner of the 42nd Golden Spikes Award will be named on Friday, June 14.
