JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The UConn Huskies are on the road for spring break and opened their trip on Saturday afternoon taking on the North Florida Ospreys. The Huskies took a pair of singles matches but came up short on the day, falling 5-2.
"We went up against a very tough Florida team today at UNF," stated head coach Glenn Marshall. "While our team was getting adjusted to outdoor tennis, they played a little more consistent than us overall which was the difference."
"The highlight of the day was the singles play of Julieanne Bou and Cassie Chung," commented Marshall. "They both competed really well today and had very solid wins over talented players. I'm looking forward to our match in a few days with Georgia Southern to continue our teams progress."
In doubles play, UNF swept all three matches to take the opening point. The Huskies pulled within 3-1 in the match as junior Cassie Chung (Vancouver, British Columbia) picked-up a win at No. 4. Chung grabbed her 11th win of the season by beating Valentina Mariotto by scores of 6-1 and 6-2.
The Huskies also got a win from freshman Julieanne Bou (New Braunfels, Texas) who improved to 14-8 overall this season. Bou needed to make a comeback to win on three sets. Falling 6-1 to Lucia Montano at No. 2 in the first set, Bou answered with convincingly, winning 6-2 and 6-3 to take the match.
UConn will return to action on Tuesday, March 19 when they head up to Georgia Southern.
